In post-Sept. 11 Los Angeles, tensions erupt when the lives of a Brentwood housewife, her district attorney husband, a Persian shopkeeper, two cops, a pair of carjackers and a Korean couple converge during a 36-hour period.

Cops stop a car - and demand the passengers get out. They are slammed against the car. The cop touches the woman sexually. We see her in tears.

We see a car crash. Cops arrive at the scene - and spots a woman stuck in one of the cars. As the cop tries to free her, she recognizes him as the man who assaulted her. We see her crying and asking him to leave. The fuel catches fire and moves towards the car. The cop manages to free her and rush her to safety. The cars explode.

The thieves try to steal a car. The driver challenges them and starts kicking and punching the thief. Cops notice this and drive towards the scene. After a standoff - the situation deescalates.

A man walks and threatens someone with a gun. His daughter sees the scene and runs out. The man shoots - just as the girl jumps in front. The father is distraught. But later he figures the girl had not been hit.

Two men argue in a car. As one of them reaches for something in jacket - the other draws his gun, shoots and kills him. The corpse is then dumped on the side of the road.

We see the injured man in the hospital. We see some trafficked people in a van. The hijacker frees them in a busy street. A distraught woman spots her dead son's body.
