Several friends travel to Sweden to study as anthropologists a summer festival that is held every ninety years in the remote hometown of one of them. What begins as a dream vacation in a place where the sun never sets, gradually turns into a dark nightmare as the mysterious inhabitants invite them to participate in their disturbing festive activities.

An old couple make a cut on their hand and smear the blood on a rock. Later they climb on top of a cliff and jump off one by one. The old woman's face is badly mangled - we see her eyeballs pop out and bloody tissues on her face. The old man does not die - but his leg is broken. We can see the bone sticking out. Some cult members then pick up a huge hammer and smash the injured man's face. We see his head getting crushed due to the pounding. Very graphic scene.

The cult invites one of the men to have sex with a young woman. When he enters the barn - he sees many naked women in a circle - and his partner lying and waiting for him. The man undresses - kisses the woman - and has sex with her. We see him thrusting - and hear her moaning. The other women sing as they witness the act.

The cult transports dead and paralyzed people on wheelbarrows to a large barn. One of them is placed in a bear skin - and the others are placed in various positions. The barn is set on fire. The man - paralyzed but conscious - watches in horror as the entire barn catches fire. We hear agonizing screams.
